A New Doll and a New Collaboration

 'Princess Camille Cashmere'

I was lucky enough to work again with the very talented artist Kerri Pajutee on this piece. Not only is Kerri an amazing artist with the most life like miniature animals I have ever seen.. I am happy to call her a good friend and she is always a joy to work with.
We created this piece together working on it for months (she the cat and me the doll).. for a very special person who loves her cat very much. Kerri recreated the cat for the client and I designed the doll to the client's specifications. I am happy to say she was very happy in the end! Please enjoy 'Princess Camille Cashmere'.

"IRMA" First new doll for 2013!

It's a been a crazy last few months but I finally have a new doll available in my Etsy store.  I spent a solid year training to run a half marathon and FINALLY did it in early December. I ran the St. Jude Marathon in Memphis and ran as a Hero helping to raise money for the kids at St. Jude. The training was intense and I ran myself right into the ground. I didn't have time for another thing and I missed making dolls but I was committed to do this for the kids of St. Jude and for myself. It was a life changing experience and I hope to do it again this year!
BUT in the meantime I am on hiatus from running and back to my doll table. This is my first new doll for 2013! Her name is "Irma" named after a sweet girl from France that allowed me to use her antique image of a little girl holding her dog to base my doll after.
I hope everyone has had a blessed New Year!

Snow White and Rose Red

a Fairy Tale
 Joanna Thomas

From one of my favorite fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm.
The rose hats they have on I have had many many years. They are antique silk and I don't even remember where I got them as I have had them so many years. I knew one day I would do something with them but what?? Then these two unplanned dolls appeared and I knew instantly they would get the roses.
 This is "Rose Red"
This is "Snow White"

I love doing two doll sets even though it's double the work and double the time! I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed creating them. Available in my Etsy shop Joanna Thomas Art Dolls Etsy Shop

 Joanna Thomas
Kerri Pajutee

This is a very special collaboration between myself and the wonderful miniature animal artist KERRI PAJUTEE.
I have long been a fan of Kerri's work and she is one of my favorite animal artist. I was thrilled to get to work with Kerri in the creation of this special piece.
Kerri and I had wanted to do something together for awhile before we came up with Alice and the Pig from Alice in Wonderland. I am a huge fan of Alice and love doing Alice dolls! I have lost count of just how many Alice dolls I have done! :)

I sent Kerri the size of my doll so she could do the pig in scale to her. My dolls are not doll house scale so the pig had to be a bit bigger than a scaled dollhouse miniature.
When I got Kerri's pig in the mail and opened it up I don't know who squeeled louder with delight! Me or the pig! :)  It could not have been anymore precious or perfect in every detail!

Kerri Pajutee is an IGMA Artisan and a Fellow Artisan within the Guild. Kerri's extremley life like animals are internationally reconized among miniature enthusiates. Kerri's work has been published all over the world in numerous magazines.
You can read more about Kerri Pajutee and see more of her creations on her website
Be prepared to be awed by her extremly life like animals! If you didn't know they were miniature you would think they are real! Even I have been fooled when she post new pictures of her work on Facebook and I see a picture of a cat or another animal before I look at the name I think it is a real!

I hope you enjoy our little collaboration as much as we enjoyed creating it.

This special set is available to purchase in my Etsy shop

"Let Them Eat Cake"

Please meet "Marie Antoinette"

My new doll is available in my Etsy Shop
I hope you enjoy her as much as I enjoyed making her. I had a lot of fun dressing this little doll as I adore costuming! She measure 7 inches and with her stand 10". I am crazy about shoes with bows so of course Marie gets to have big bows and big brass buckles on her tapestry shoes. I also had a great time on her wig! I felt like I was playing beauty parlor with her! I really didn't want to find the end to this doll but at some point you have to let them go...
As always I appreciate your comments and support!
Thank you for viewing my latest creation!

New Dolls for 2012 are arriving as promised!

Poetry and My Dolls by Aude Berger

by Aude Berger

Recently the author and poet Aude Berger from France wrote a beautiful article on me and my dolls. I was very honoured when the article was put into book form. I have a few pictures of the article here which is all in French. It is a little hard to read but if you follow the link at the bottom you can page through the book online.
Aude Berger is the author of "Art Figuratif et Poupees Contemporaines de Collection" which I have featured on my blog before. She has written many articles on doll artist including Yvonne Flipse, Nadine Leepinlausky and Laura Scattolini just to name a few. Aude's words are very magical and speak the spirit of the dolls themselves what we the artist work so hard to convey through our work. I was very honoured to have Aude write her beautiful words about my dolls.
The book included many pages and pictures of my dolls.

The pages here may not be in order but here is the link to view the book online in it's entirety

Please enjoy!

PS (new doll in the works now!)

The Little Acrobat

The Little Acrobat
A New Doll by Joanna Thomas
Are You Ready for The Circus?

I have a new doll available in my Etsy Shop!

I have been away for a long time and I have had a lot of people ask me where I have been. To those that asked... I had decided to take a short break from doll making last year just because I needed one. That "short break" turned into a year as other things in my life took over. During that time we went through a move, I joined a small dance group, and I started to run.  Today we are finally settled into our home, our dance company is preparing for a show in April, and I am up to running 9 miles preparing for my frist race in May.
I came over to my long neglected blog to update it and found it in a mess with broken HTML code among other things so it took me a bit to get it all back into order. I did go around and visit all my favorite blogs and have to say you guys have been busy and I so enjoyed seeing what everyone has been working on! Sorry I didn't get a chance to comment on everyones blogs but I was sooo far behind and if I did I would still be trying to see everything!
I did want to thank you though for your continued support of me and my dolls! I really appreciate everyone here and making what I do more fun than I ever dreamed~

And YES more dolls are coming soon! :)
